Scar Comes to Life in Disneyland Paris’s New Lion King Ride

Following the successful opening of World of Frozen at Disneyland Paris earlier in 2026, fans turned their attention to the next land at Disney Adventure World. As D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026 approached, expectations were high for fresh details of the developing Lion King Ride.
They got some.
Disneyland Paris showcased a model of the ride vehicle — a detailed wooden boat, styled like a hollowed-out log — alongside example scene models of what guests will see on the journey. The big news, though, was confirmation that a brand-new Audio-Animatronics figure of Scar will debut in the Lion King ride.
New concept art revealed a confrontation scene where Scar stands in Simba’s path, directly inspired by the climax of the 1994 film — meaning fans will experience that moment in person, in a physical scene, for the first time.
What’s confirmed for Lion King Ride and Land
The ride itself follows a format already proven at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort in California with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Construction began in autumn 2025 and as part of their updates at the D23 event in August, Disneyland Paris sharing behind-the-scenes clips of a test drop. Confirmed at 16 metres, it will be the tallest of three drops guests will experience, taking them past Audio-Animatronics figures of Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, Scar, and more, all set to the film’s soundtrack.
The entire Lion King land at Disney World of Adventure will cover more than 30,000 square metres once complete, including the attraction, a boutique, a dining location, and character experiences, built on the banks of Adventure Bay near World of Frozen.
Michel den Dulk, Vice President Portfolio Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, said the team is “excited to lift the curtain on Scar’s presence” in the attraction, calling it a chance for guests to experience the film’s story “in an entirely new way.”
What will happen to existing Lion King offerings?
One of the big questions on guests’ minds is what happens to current Lion King experiences at Disneyland Paris once the new Lion King ride and land opens?
Fan favourites include the Hakuna Matata restaurant in Adventureland, Rhythms of the Pride Lands at the Frontierland Theatre, and various Lion King meet-and-greets around the park. Will they move? Get replaced? And if so, with what?
Undoubtably guests will be watching to see whether Disneyland Paris consolidates all its Lion King presence into one dedicated land, or keeps it spread across both parks.
There are reasonable arguments either way. A single, focused Lion King Land gives a stronger, more cohesive identity that will likely create a more immersive guest experience, while spreading Lion King touches across the resort can mean guests encounter it more often, not just in one contained zone.
There’s also a broader open question worth raising.
World of Frozen opened to high anticipation earlier this year. Whether Lion King sustains the same level of guest interest once the novelty passes is an open question, and one worth revisiting once opening day details land.
How are fans reacting to the new Lion King land Details
Reaction to the reveal has been more mixed than the Scar animatronic news might suggest. One fan argued the resort’s Lion King investment “still isn’t enough,” pointing to years of underfunding and arguing that even World of Frozen, while a step in the right direction, doesn’t go far enough on its own.
Others pushed back on that framing, suggesting the rumour mill in the run-up to D23 had inflated expectations beyond what any announcement could realistically meet.

Elsewhere there are concerns that Disneyland Paris haven’t gone far enough to satisfy guests with Lion King land, and that a newer, more current attraction would’ve been a better long term investment for the parks.

When can guests visit Lion King land at Disneyland Paris
Sadly, Disneyland Paris are keeping tight lipped on any expected opening date for the Lion King land set to open at Disney World of Adventure, which isn’t surprising considering guests were left in the dark for World of Frozen’s opening until just a few months before.
Notably absent from the reveal was also any fresh update on Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings, Disneyland Paris’s other confirmed 2027 opening, a reminder that for all the detail shared on Lion King, D23 2026 left plenty still unconfirmed across the resort’s wider expansion.
It’s a theme running through this year’s announcements, including the news that Hyperspace Mountain will close in 2027 and Stars on Parade will be retired not long after too.
